CA-ANF-Bobcat

Is any of that a threat to LAC LRA/SRA?

LAC handles structure threats in the ANF. Therefore Mt Wilson will likely fall to them, or a designee. I think it was a Cal Fire team that handled that in the 2011 Station. LAC has all of the east end SRA/LRA which is Bradbury/Duarte. They also have resources protecting the structures at Crystal Lake on the far east side, and up canyon.

Our Cal Fire ST was on top of MT Wilson for at least a week as I remember could of been longer.
We protected the Observatory and 5 or 6 TV tower and Microwave installations. Without going into much detail that is a very critical piece of ground up there. From the Air Time those TV towers/ Microwaves provide and the Communication infrastructure. And the Observatory has a huge part of history related to Space and Einstein theory of relativity. Like I stated that’s a very CRITICAL piece of ground up there.

Quite correct. Historically significant, yes, but operationally significant for the entire LA Basin as well. XLC 1206A who was moved immediate need from the El Dorado is on Mt Wilson now along with an LAC Type I. Not nearly the same resource commitment as your team @ffviking . The work your team team may still provide some level of protection - I hope. Still too smokey to see how hot it is burning from just below there now.

Copy, those Teams up there will do a great job. As like us when they find out what’s at stake up there I’m positive they will go above and beyond. Good luck to them and all on that fire. And thank you muni_cap for recognizing our efforts up there. That is very much appreciated after all these years…

@muni_captain and @ffviking
I have a friend at the Space Science Lab at UC Berekely. There are two new interferometers on telescopes up there on Mt. Wilson. These instruments are doing things like measuring the size of planets in other solar systems. There are also new telescopes.
So it is not just history that you guys have been and will continue to work hard to protect. It is today’s cutting edge science as well
The SSL folks want to pass along their thanks for your tough and determined work that is protecting their precious assets.

Bobcat AA just timed out. No replacement available. Cancelled the Quebecs ordered earlier. Building contingency dozer lines east of Henninger Flats: https://goo.gl/maps/aWfmYpQ2HcSEErpF8

Wow
That sounds like a bad deal. Peak burning time for the day and no AA, no tankers.
Maybe should have a better plan

They were able to get AA12 to fill. Whew! Transitioning now.
EDIT: AA stating “too socked in” with smoke “to get retardant in” around Wilson and “turbulent” up there. Priority will be trying to defend the east side assets and that the west “should hold.”

1/4 to 1/2 ac spot North of Hwy 2 at Buckhorn spring. 2 copters on it plus making access with hose packs.

It keeps “slopping over” the lines. The fire jumped over the contingency line and is burning on the ridgeline above the east side Little Santa Anita Canyon. You will notice two prominent smoke columns at the top of the canyon right now. The City of Sierra Madre will be issuing an order in the next hour directing all properties in the canyon to remove any vehicles, personal property, debris, or any other object that is in the public right of way.
