All 3 QRF ships plus Helco and a PJ ship flying fire on the front country tonight
Pj flying ship?
Did an interview this afternoon with Tim Chavez about the geography of this fire and some of its potential. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9cj1wvvUlI
PJ’s are Air Force Pararescue. They are combat medics and some of the most highly trained technical rescue folks out there. They are oftentimes assigned to UH-60’s which are referred to as “ships”. Sometimes they’ll be in CH-47’s. During Katrina, they utilized both platforms.

RAWS data for today. Erratic wind shifts of most interest
Mill Creek - 3000ft, 34.083611, -117.034722
Heaps Peak - 6350ft, 34.236111, -117.139167
Mapped by AA51 16,910 acres. Some great things happening with rain hitting the fire when it got to RS, some not so great stuff with fire crossing Santa Ana to the East, and dropping into City Creek on the West side of the fire.
Coulson night crews were very effective on the two fires in Tehachapi and through out the Borel fire. The Billings night crews were also just as impressive.
Hope you got some good pictures for us boot on the ground.
That portion hopping across the drainage above the dam to the east is going to be a real big problem through the week. Fires have not burned most of the land up there since the early 70s.
Glad to be wrong about the fireline hitting Ferdalba tonight, frankly, seems like a Godsend with that sudden downburst with rain just before sunset.
I was at 330 and Fredalba when it started pouring, you could hear the fire coming up the hill with the ominous freight train sound. Water started falling and the fire behavior moderated, truly felt like a miracle, and in my humble opinion, Running Springs 100% dodged a bullet today. Attached is an image from Harrison Canyon (BDC) hand crew tonight above Highland firing out during structure protection around 2100 hours.
17459 acres.
Don’t forget Santa Barbara. OES Region 1 (LA) does this all the time. This is a Normal So Cal fire siege for their staff.

Did you ever get s answer to your question?
Most must have left Running Springs last night. Watching the downtown cams the only traffic has been LE and this morning some T1 engines making their way to their assignments. Will likely be a very eventful day again and see what the weather brings.
