CA-BDF-Radford??

Agree with Twig. I was intimately involved in utilizing the jumpers out of SBD and while they did a great job on many fires this particular fire would not have been a successful scenario for a stop. If anything it woild be good to have their saws on the fire punching line in.

Per @CAFireScanner Twitter:

#RadfordFire (3 miles S/O #BigBearLake, San Bernardino NF) - Copter 531 reporting the fire is getting close to the 2N10 road (unsure on distance) & is couple hundred yards from the structures on the ridge, mentioned ski lifts & ski bldgs, reporting heavy torching of trees.

Well established spot into the timber west side of Snow Summit in the Skyline Creek area, north of the 2N10 road.

“Explodes”? 330 acres in 15 hours? Fairview might have “exploded”. “Exploded” is the most over used word in the news business.

Or what about the term “brusher” used by the LA tv news market?

Radford last night from a lookout near Arrowbear looking east. The fire stayed active till dusk, thenmoderated until 2200, then overnight winds picked it up and tossed a spot over the 2N10 road, 3 acres (Sourdough Truck Trail). Snow Summit Resort is directly to the north of that spot. Crews are engaged at the resort, snow makers are on/sprinklers, and retardant being painted along the ridge.

Based on expected fire behavior today, concern seems to be holding the fire south of Big Bear proper.

RE media superlatives reporting on wildfires, yes it’s something I’ve tried to educate colleagues on for many seasons. Save the adjectives for 100k fires, not blazes that are orders of magnitude smaller like this one (which thankfully it is).

Might be an interesting view.

The so far low intensity of this fire is doing more good for that slope which was filled with thousands of dead pines.
