CA-BTU-Dixie?

Your not lying. The fuel bed is continuous and once it gets established beyond the 300U then Lynch Meadows there is nothing to hold it from Sterling City. The contingency from last year was the “Fighting Chance” to get a line around Sterling City.

We tried for a week to get line up on Bald Mtn. But as the SPI and Loggers know " if there isn’t a road or line there, there is no putting IRON in to build it"

Put in a request to de-energize the 240 kV transmission lines in the fire area. That’s a big chunk of the supply for CalISO…

IC requesting all transmission power lines be shut down. PGE says it will affects hundreds of thousands in the Sacramento area. Sounds like they will be having a meeting to discuss…

Help me out here Folks…IC must think it’s a safety issue for good reason. I understand the problem this will cause trying to reroute power if possible and notifications etc in a short time frame. So can PG&E deny this request?

Probably a lot of high level calls with ISO, OES and CF too make that call

Power is out in Quincy.

Definitely a risk assessment with the heat today, and turning off everyone’s AC in the middle of a very hot day. You might be mitigating the issue for the fire, but creating a massive emergency in Sacramento area if they shut the power down. Might be a case were you work around the power lines for the time being. Adapt and overcome.

It will indirectly affect all of CalISO because that section of transmission line carries a large chunk of power generation to substations down system. I believe dispatch said that it will affect about 50,000 in the Sacramento area directly, unless there were further updates after that initial number. Transmission lines don’t affect most customers directly like distribution lines do- they’re the “middle man.” CalISO may be able to make up the difference elsewhere or implement rolling blackouts instead of completely shutting down parts of the grid. Currently demand is less than supply:

Copy, Thanks…

They definitely said “hundreds of thousands”.
Folks on other sites heard the same

I don’t know the cause, but it appears that all of Quincy and Lake Almanor and all points in between are without power

According to the discussion between dispatch and air attack, the upper Caribou lines were damaged by the fire and went off on their own. “Lower system that parallels the river” supplies most of Central California and the governors office wants 30-60 min lead time if those need to be de-energized, for life safety or any other cause.

Air Attack said to go ahead and leave the lower ones alone for now.

Paul Moreno, spokesman for PG&E, said that the crews de-energized transmission lines this morning at the request of firefighters. As of 11:30 a.m. approximately 10,000 PGE customers in Plumas County were without power. PSREC was also affected, but has switched to alternate power and restored electricity to its South customers.

PG&E continues to monitor the Dixie Fire, with crews on-site to support first-responders. PG&E is investigating options to restore power. The last update mentioned 2:15.

3 of the 4 available VLAT’s are committed. T-914 is in Pocatello, perhaps on a day off.

Notable increase in winds and density of column. AA advises 1,100 acres with 1/4 mile spotting.

"the fire has moved past our plans for containment. Has passed the 300U Road/Line & is spotting past “U9 Road”.
“1100 acres, spotting 1/4+ mile ahead.”

Does anyone have a map that shows these road systems? Not finding them on the “regular” maps.

And through previous experience working timber fires on SP land, you may want to invest in a cb radio…if the lumber trucks are still working, you definitely want to know who you’re sharing the road with…had a couple of close calls with semis’ hauling butt down the roads on the Concow fire of '08
