Considering the wind/weather forecasts for the next few days, it is almost unimaginable to consider what is next.

More than forty years here, and last week is the only time I can recall there ever being even an evacuation warning, much less a mandatory. I might not have noticed one as a kid.

I’m not entirely convinced it’s going to come up against the edge of town - there are some good natural and artificial obstacles, and there’s a line of fairly well-logged forest running north-south parallel to 89 west of the lake and continuing up the east flank of Stover. There’s also the Super Ditch (the Bypass Channel or whatever it’s officially called), a nice big rock-lined break, along with the lake itself. Or maybe I’m just being overly optimistic.

Having said that … even thinned forests can carry a crowning fire with strong winds, and wide obstacles like the lake between West Shore and the Penninsula can be jumped.

I hear ya, I think most fire cameras at big sites will be like this before next fire season. These cameras on Dyer Mnt were the pilot…

I would imagine (hope) that the FLIR cams are being recorded and some wizard will share the vids at some point.

Phenomenal stuff.

Hats off to the folks behind getting the cams on Dyer!

just reminding everyone enthralled with the flir streaming pictures, keep in mind you are looking at Heat not flames in the upper parts of the pictures. The flame is down by the trees and the heat can tower up much higher as it is drug up in the convection column.

Another great shot from above

Spotting will be the issue…most of those “barriers” will have zero affect if the fire is spotting a mile plus

Hopefully, now that it is at the shoreline it will be more of flanking fire as it creeps north toward the subdivisions. This will make it easier to stop than a head on attack would be. Still nothing to celebrate though. I hope the water system and hydrant system is up to their task, also.

@pyrogeography - You said what I would have said - IF I had the ability to articulate the way that you did. Bravo :raised_hands:
