Isn’t it still considered to be the 3rd largest still
Thanks for the clarification!
Largest individual fire not part of a complex.
Very good point. Certainly another part of the cost of wildfires, though certainly relatively small compared to all the other costs.
Also though, the taxes on the timber that is harvested goes to the counties who realistically often don’t have the resources or under state environmental restrictions the ability to engage in the kind of large scale prevention efforts that are needed. As for firefighting, that’s a state function in the SRA. While there has been some increased funding to CAL FIRE in recent years, it certainly hasn’t been enough.
Seems this topic could easily be a thread all its own! What are the true costs of the wildfire problem, who should deal with it and what are the financial incentives involved?
Does it matter rather its one or ten its terrible its sucked State and local resources down to nothing!!
Thank you. Now back to Blue by you.
MOD-NOTE
All,
Let’s please stay on topic and not go off course. Should you want to discuss complexes, Fire names, financial costs etc, find the respective thread on this site and continue it there.
Thank you,
FJ
The evacuation maps have changed quite a bit and I don’t think have been shared here recently. They tell quite the story about the magnitude of this fire:
I believe this map covers all of the currently affected counties except Tehama:

Either way it still sucks ,our family lost our home and everything but our lives to thomas fire it just hurts seeing others go through it
Yeah, lost my neighborhood in '03 to the Old Fire. It’s basically why I am in this line of work. It hurts my heart to see lost communities
did anyone else catch that on the scanner just now? sounds like 30 acres at Lone Rock - I’m guessing they mean the campground at the tip of Antelope Lake
It is also mentioned here from last night…

Does anyone know how CALFIRE Team 3 are going to fit into the mix? Are they replacing a team or are they an additional team?
There is a spot 5 miles off the eastern flank, but Antelope Lake is 16 miles away. This isn’t a new start?
My Intel says it’s currently being treated as a new start.
Additional team. They are going to manage the north side of the fire.
Not sure. Was called a spot last nite on that web site but was not mentioned in the briefing videos that I can recall. But then again it’s hard to recall with the information overload on this monster…
Could it be a new pyro-genic lightning start? Does it count as a spot if the fire is creating its own dry lightning (as it has in recent days) and starts a “new” fire? That’s actually a serious question…I don’t know whether that qualifies…
