Better use of the English language would be this: IMT-3 assumed command from IMT-1.
It is still a unified command with CalFire, Lassen National Park/National Park Service and USFS.
It must be hard to find towns big enough to house thousands of firefighters near the fire. Putting 2 major camps in one town no doubt increases logistical complications. In the “old” days we used to have fire camp out in the woods in a meadow or campground. Hard to keep a camp out of the way of the mega fires we have now.
Also, I heard in the morning briefing that there is a cost share agreement in place between the State and the Feds. By separating camps/ICPs, it makes it easier to track the costs.
The “weeds” are in the green, not a safe place to be. Stay in the “black” and on topic. Thank you
the cost share has been active since right after the start of the fire
when you guys are looking at wind maps as it relates to the fire, do you look at 10m or 100m above ground or both?
The first half of Beardsley grade would be a nightmare to hold. Extremely steep with pretty solid oak and brush. Roll out will be a huge problem, and there is no way to widen it with heavy equipment.
There are some dozer lines further north of there that might work better.
Agreed. Until you hit the crest above the Forman Rd area, Beardsley is a nightmare.
Maybe push down the ridge line above Beardsley from where Foreman Ravine road comes in, give or take?
That would be my idea. Work the land between the ridgeline to the north and Beardsley grade. Try and choke it out at the ridge, similar to what happened on Indian Ridge at Mt Hough.
I would believe that the FMAG was requested for federal emergency funding backstop, Yes/No? Or has FMAG been renamed. Finance will be working through the winter (or is it just a long fall season) processing this one, I would think.
I found that 2021 threshold for FMAG funding is to reach 8.6million cumulative cost for a Federal Assistance Grant. Think that was met while ago.

PCSO just downgraded most of southern Indian Valley to Evac Warning. Apparently they got work done on that thing after last nights blow out.
July 20, 2021: Disaster Declaration Activity, FMAG Approved: Dixie Fire – CAFMAG 5400-FM-CA
“Before a grant can be awarded, a State must demonstrate that total eligible costs for the declared fire meet or exceed either the individual fire cost threshold - which is applies to single fires, or the cumulative fire cost threshold, which recognizes numerous smaller fires burning throughout a State.”

Just my opinion, discussion of cost allocation of these major fires belongs in General Discussion. This thing is still advancing and a lot of information is still coming in that could be helpful to those who might get assigned or impacted.
Just saw a Strike Team of Type 1s from OES Region VI on 395 headed north out of Minden/Gardnerville Just the kind of resources that may be looking for intel
