Agreed. Tons of work that needs to be done that hasn’t even been started.
Preparations for a fire burning into the Tahoe basin should of started the day the Caldor fire blew up. Humans react slowly and often times are not prepared. Many posts have been warning of that possibility some even censored. Suppression of thoughts in this day and age will get you no where.
If I remember correctly the King fire did get some moisture to slow its progress towards the end of it which helped. Perhaps the local wind changes will slow this one down, if not get prepared.
Nope
#CaldorFire - some of the resource needs listed for 12 to 72 hrs+ (8:11 PM Summary Report):
30 - Type III Engine Strike Teams [STs]
20 - Type VI Engine STs
15 - Type V Engine STs
30 - Type I Engine STs
30 - Hand Crew STs
20 - DozersType 2
10 - Water Tenders - any type
Remember those are Strike Teams, not single resources, with the exception of the dozers and water tenders.
Wow…good luck filling all of those
How about, the overhead to go along with the order. We need more qualified DIVS out there. Agencies- incentivize your employees to take added responsibility. We need more depth
Well most requesting agencies allow the qualified OH to bring a trainee with them. But most qualified OH just see that opportunity as just a hassle. But like your idea…
I can see Sacramento fairgrounds being used for a Stagging are or Base Camp for all those resources.
Wondering, “Planned Need” Resources for Echo Summit or Tahoe Valley? Staging in Reno?
Reno is too far. Carson city or down in Minden Gardnerville hopefully
They know the request will never be filled but they have to identify it. Putting it on the 209 is basically telling NICC to give this fire a high priority.
Caltopo has a spot of heat off station creek road (11N02 road) south side of hwy50 not that far ahead…

Strawberry might be heads up about this.
Going through the cameras (at about 0945), it looks like the fire is for the most part laying down nicely this morning. I wonder how long that will last.
HLCO flew it this morning, 1/8 acre not doing much. They hammered it with the Coulson Helitankers before they had to RTB. However the spot on the North side of the 50 is becoming problematic. SWAG it at around 300 acres, it didn’t do much last night until about 3 AM when NE winds presented themselves and breathed life into it. It made multiple runs upslope, jumping the new dozer lines that they put in place and eventually jumping the 11N99 rd at around 7 am. It sheeted across the 4’ grass in the plantations and eventually found its way into the jr timber stands and was off to the races.
Command changed today… doesn’t seem like the caldor broadcastify channel has updated it to cmnd 105
Which area of fire is this showing?
Division A near Omo Ranch.
Is this from Farnam Ridge or Shakeridge
