UPDATE: McKinney Fire explodes to 18,000 acres in western Siskiyou County
McKenney fire has grown to 18,000 acres in the first 18 hours. I am not aware of any other fire on the KNF that grew that fast from point source…some of the complexes may have demonstrated that growth, but not a single fire. Does anyone have a data or memory of comparable growth on the Klamath ?
New veg dispatch near black mountain, single report on small white column. First unit onscene will be rooster IC
Also listening to discussion on another 1/4-1/2 acre requesting helicopter and a recon of the area, did not catch a location
Slater fire is most recent fire in that region that burned like this. Think it did 30,000 acres in first 24hr period. Crazy to think it didn’t seem that impressive compared to the rest of 2020.

Redding hotshots as well as globe from Arizona looks like some of these crews may be demobed soon probably for this incident (edit bigbear hotshots as well.
What app is that?
Really discouraging hearing resources asking for engine strike teams, agency or local gov preferred. With a such rapidly growing fire with structure threats, why bother with preference? Can’t we all just get along and put the fire out?
Perhaps the local government stuff is just closer resources?
It has to do with being self-sufficient. It will take a while to get the logistics set up to properly support contract resources. Can’t expect folks to work 2-3 days without food, fuel, or supplies. LG or agency are self-sufficient for the first 72 hours.
If you are worried about closest resource, you simply specify “2 strike teams of engines, closest resource”
I think my question is being misinterpreted. It sounds like they are dancing around utilizing CalFire resources…
Unfortunately there is no one size fits all.
It’s all about available resources, contracts and agreements and finally who’s paying and at what cost.
A real bummer.
I see what you mean. It is indeed different in some areas where I am regardless if its USFS land or Cal fire responsibility area anything not in the wilderness receives a dispatch from both agencies right away
This is so far north in the state, reflex time can be extremely extended for resources. Take whatever you can get now, and if you want to weed out the red engines later, do it then. But don’t get picky about what agency the engines come from when peoples homes are at risk. steps down off the soap box
Totally agreed
