Ya, plus any fire that balloons up this quickly will definitely overwhelm the unit/s closest by and then everything else is delayed by time distance and availability. It will be be catch-up for awhile with this one.
I was curious as well and went looking for it. Appears to be an app called RadarOmega.
Maybe state is trying to hold on to stuff due to same weather event?
Exactly. Few or none of us know the behind the scenes decision rationale.
Here we go again. Mods will remind everyone about keeping on topic and will start another post titled what are the bean counters thinking and such.
I wasn’t commenting on anything bean counter related. I was commenting on fed field division on the fire specifically asking for agency or LG engine strike teams for structure protection rather than closest resource.
Immediate need strike team request just went out for Redding
I hear ya. The system sucks when it comes to this stuff and is frustrating sitting nearby waiting for out of unit resources to get there when your compadres are screaming for help.
Keep in mind that the current resource requests are not yet coming from the IMT. Once the IMT is in place resource ordering will becoming much more efficient in who and what is being requested.
And yes, please return this discussion back to the Incident itself
Just about every rapidly developing large fire has these questions/comments. We need to be very proud of our mutual aid system. It is amazing when you see how some other states operate. But, it certainly has it’s areas for improvement. Be patient and give the operators on the fire grace. It is very hard it engage a fire like this with so many difficult obstacles. Until you’re in that IC, Ops, DIVS, ECCs shoes on something like this it’s hard to understand. Keep each other safe and if you’re not on this one, you’ll be on the next one.
Radar Omega…developed by a few storm chasing meteorologist I know
Just curious about the technology? From this post can one verify the 48,000 feet? How does one go about applying this tech?
radar verified
“New veg dispatch near black mountain, single report on small white column. First unit onscene will be rooster IC
Also listening to discussion on another 1/4-1/2 acre requesting helicopter and a recon of the area, did not catch a location”
I think jumpers may have been ordered for the start. Not totally sure though.
Was waiting on a public FIRIS perimeter, but it got posted about noon and I just posted a wrapup of our maps and posts so far today for the fire on The Lookout, with a discussion of tactical options, and detailed maps of places the fire has already crossed good potential control lines.
Any update on acerage?
29,000+ Acres as of 1145
California Interagency Incident Management 2 being ordered. Fed Type 1.
Thunderstorms are beginning to develop in Scott Valley, just south of the fire.
Hope they stay away or things will be getting very ugly.
