Which Calfire team is that? Ive only known them by numbers
North Bay IMT. Not a CalFire team
Good folks
Copy. Thank you sir.
Is that a fed team?
Local team and solid management, and if needed can smoothly transition to a CF team
Helco did an accountability of rotor working for him…that is 8 copters. Two night copters on scene.
Type 3 Team. Just like RVC has and similar to the South Bay IMT And East Bay IMT.
And the Sacramento Area team which is on the Coyote
I refrained from using the Type Since the feds no longer do. LOL
Feds use CIMTs (Critical Incident Mgt. Teams formerly Type 1) and Type 3 teams, no more Type 2s.
There are only 3 types of teams anymore
CIMT
Complex Incident Management Team
35-80 members are deployed depending on the need of the receiving unit/agency.
Type 1 Team
65-80 members. Qualifications are equal to or greater than those of the CIMT
Type 3 Team
35-50 members
Type 3 Qualifications. Ability to set up either a CIMT or T1 team for success. Usually made up of local members (County inside a GACC)
Where T1 or CIMT are statewide or GACC wide membership.
T3 teams are 40-60% LG folks.
Hope that helps.
It looks like the fire is settling down a little on the cameras, or am I just having wishful thinking as I see less and less light on the fire as the sun goes down.
As was said before this area can be tricky. Under a Foehn wind pattern it can have very strong downslope winds and even form a Mountain Wave. It is not unusual to see winds on the top of Mt. St. Helena in the 30’s and 40’s during a strong offshore wind event.
During strong HP during “summer” it tends to have lighter downslope flow at night. There are valley’s adjacent to it both with strong sea breeze components almost every night. Strong inversions set up in those valleys trapping warm air above them. This creates a thermal belt scenario where 1000 feet of elevation makes a huge difference. In this type of pattern I would expect a period of relative calm until around 2200 hours. Once the inversion builds in RH will tank and remain there all night. Temps will warm or remain in the low 70’s. Downslope winds will enhance the mixing of the atmosphere but will not be strong enough to break the inversion in the valley.
Tomorrow the atmosphere will destabilize and moisture will make its way north.. not quite past Tahoe but enough that tomorrow could look and feel different. If enough could cover makes it west the temps will be held down. The atmosphere will be primed for column development and fueled by the steady up valley winds.
This fire will want to move east and north. Burn scars bring their own set of challenges.. lots of dead and down to catch and hold spots.. lots of homogeneous fuel and grass to drive a fire.
The Pawnee Fire in Lake County in 2017 burned about the same amount in the first burn period.. settled down and then single digit RH’s overspread the fire and it went crazy over night. The Clayton Fire in 2016 burned about the same amount in Lower Lake and had line around it.. round noon two dust devils formed in the black.. they each moved across into the green and about 10 minutes later we had two spots.. then 4 and then 20… the fire then made a huge run pushed by the onshore flow towards Clear Lake.
Growing up in the area.. it can be a difficult place to fight fire. LNU has some of the best and they will work to smash it tonight…
On the Kincade, in 2019, we had winds of 102 mph clocked on Mt. St. Helena in the middle of the night.
From webcams it looks really well-established in the backside of the Three Peaks area.
Red line is a total WAG…
Yea with the night copters working they’ll hold this at bay while they get hose on the ground. Give it a day or two….all will be handled.
Hearing talk of Rattlesnake Ridge there, and possibly sending dozers and crews in off Pope Valley Rd, INTEL12 is over the fire now, curious to see where it’s at now
Fire mapped at 2,133 acres
Briefing is scheduled for 0700 @ Calistoga/napa county fairgrounds
Updated maps here: Current 23:20hrs.
I’m getting “Page Not Found” on that link.
Sorry, thry this. Pickett Fire near Calistoga - 8/21/2025 - The Lookout
Last real night helicopter traffic was parts of the head and right flank being smoked out fire activity has moderated on the left flank but still active on the right. With copter 603 released it currently on radar shows none helicopter over the incident working the heel.
