CA-LPF-Gifford??

There’s a strong fire whirl there.

Check out this large vortex that starts out almost horizontal before it get pulled up as it gets to the edge of the plume. There were quite a number of smaller horizontal jets as the fire came up this ridge.

While La Panza 2 is giving a great view, I think La Panza 1 is the camera that’s actually staring down the proverbial barrel. The fire appears to be jumping Midway Rd, once it gets past that at the toe of the slope it’s going to be in direct alignment with Los Machos Creek which runs right up to La Panza tower. Right now all the energy release is coming off the top of the ridge but once it works its way into that drainage, I feel like it’s going to come out of their with way more intensity than it’s showing now.

yup, it’s always the one you’re not watching that gets ya

Welp, Mother Nature has a different plan and it could be advantageous if they have the iron available. With the wind holding the fire on the ridge, a couple Lima strike teams could get in there and go direct

Dozers staged around La Panza site this morning

Have there been any ROs for contract engines…? It seems weird we haven’t been called yet. We spent 3 weeks last summer on Tepusquet Rd as contingency for the Lake fire …

They must have heard you…4 dozers working from La Panza cam heading out towards the ridge this morning…

Heavy line getting cut this morning… looks like they’re going to tie in at La Panza and try to hold it at the ridge.

Winds in New Cuyama are predicted to be out of the north/northeast until evening. Plus hot and dry on top of it. The coastal air being pulled in to the 166 corridor essentially converges with the easterly flow right in the area of the fire. I hope all folks keep their heads on swivels out there today. In ‘97, not far from where the dozers are pushing a major line in off of La Panza peak, I watched from Huasna through binoculars as a dozer was burned over on the Logan Fire. The operator was okay, thank God. There is a whole lot of nothing out there worth risking a life for. Be careful and don’t get tunnel vision, or become so attached to an assignment that you should be willing to walk away from if things go pear shaped. Thanks for reading my novel…

Anecdotal and super limited perspective, for sure, but haven’t seen a ton in the way of contract engines yet. Couple strike teams worth of PG&E brush trucks, though…

This isn’t really a fire with a big engine need, it needs dozers and crews

It’s a beautiful thing to watch

I see it as equal need, there are many roads going to the main ridge and in the canyons leading twords them not to mention the rods on the LPF, from the Figueroa, pendola and off 33. Not discounting the heavy lift and need of crews and dozers, but there is plenty of engine work available. But as we all know, those in charge have a plan and will order as the plan dictates

Santa Cruz County sent a local government planned need type 3 strike team last night around 7pm

Watching the dozers do great work on that midway ridge, might want to high blade a few of them back and get at least a check line down that ridge you see on LP 1 cam just above Los Machos. Could be an opportunity to create a catchers mit on the NE Corner

Maybe use Los Pelados rd as a contingency line, it makes a nice pocket as well on that NE corner.
