CA-LPF-Gifford??

They have been firing off that corner from the ridgeline dozer line down the distribution power line corridor to the Southwest. So far, it’s holding good

Very great to hear. I was worried about how those powerlines are going to be impacted and what they will do for electricity should they be an active line for electricity for whoever those lines are feeding through… it’s amazing to know that they’ve planned ahead and sought to defend those lines. Thanks for the reply!

So, now they are firing the spur dozer line coming in from the Northwest of the com towers that they put in late this afternoon. All of that will be moving down towards the main fire. It looks like they are planning on a primary line somewhere to the North side but we will have to wait and see how this develops out

Looks like they decided to fire off Los Pelados to create that catchers mitt, Will be interesting to see just how far they take it today.

Acres Burned: 83,933

Containment: 9%

Current Situation: Last night, the winds calmed down after sunset, providing some relief to the rapidly growing fire on the northern flank. Crews and dozers were successful in constructing containment lines north of the transmission lines to stop the forward progress of the fire.

On the eastern flank, where the fire met the recent Madre incident, there was no movement. On the southern perimeter, a contingency line, two dozer blades wide, was completed to Schoolhouse Ridge.

Today’s operation priorities will focus on the northern flank to strengthen and improve containment lines constructed last night. East of Huasna Valley in the northwestern quadrant, crews and dozers will continue to improve contingency and constructed containment fire lines. In the Buckhorn Ridge and Pine Canyon areas, crews continue to improve and strengthen containment lines and assess the area for structure defense.

Weather: Today, temperatures will be in the upper-80s to high-90s with areas of smoke. Relative humidity is expected to be around 10% with winds gusting up to 15 to 20 mph. The warming and drying trend is expected to continue until the weekend. Thursday could see temperatures into triple digits, increasing fire behavior.

That was probably the most impressive 0.5 acre growth I’ll ever see..

Thank you, just hoping it does not spread any farther eastward toward the Zaca Fire Scar and the Cuyama Peak area.

The fire spotted outside the dozer line that went direct around the slop over… need to pick it up or it can undo a lot of progress

Now outside the retardant line. She’s gone.

There is another dozer line to the left that the CF dozers went down last night to cut below that slop over, you can see the line on the full view

Also another spot

This is the spot that occurred when the fire came up the slope behind the camera late yesterday afternoon. There is a dozer line around this, a crew cut handline and there is fresh retardant below it. just an island burning out. A bit dangerous but it is not lost.

Excuse the rough draft here but it appears they’ve been dragging fire down Los Pelados with a tie in point at Avenales rd(FS 31S02) , where they go from there could be a two way go. Big box picture to me looks like maybe just follow the road system north up and over the ridge, Avenales up to Agua Escondido and over the top of Huasana Rd to Cable Corral. This would obviously be a huge lift that requires significant resources. Whatever plan they have, I hope it goes well and all get home safe.

Me thinks with the amount of smoke generated from the firing last night and the benign winds today they are catching a break. It’s amazing what effect shading can have on a fire.
