From ONCC News and Notes 0620hrs: National Weather Service- Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon today to 6 PM this evening for strong gusty wind and low RH for Central Siskiyou County, including Shasta Valley (Fire Weather Zone 281). Link
In addition the Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM this evening for strong gusty wind and low RH for portions of Modoc County. Fire Weather Watch in effect from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening for strong gusty wind and low RH. Link
18 crews, 52 engines, 5 dozers, 7 watertenders. Estimated 900 people evacuated.
Sounds like there was a wind shift overnight and the fire burned in multiple directions. I think it started too late in the day for a nirops flight to be scheduled.
per CHP CAD:
CHP and ODOT are now escorting traffic through on I5 in the last hour. All offramps hard closure between Yreka and OR border. The cameras on the oregon side show heavy smoke, not much airflow. 60% RH this morning. Cameras and WX on CA side are down.
See if this works, it looks like the heat showing on the satellite dropped a good deal overnight:
