Well let’s hope it’s minimal at most and if not then it just hard to the complexity of things.
9-15 Ops Map
Intel late last night from my son who is on a strike team at Camp Nelson… The fire made a hard push toward Camp Nelson after jumping 190 at Cedar Slope. Along with a lot of VLAT help and a 6-7000’ hose; lay tied into a dozer line they kept the fire out of Camp Nelson. It started to get into the community but they didn’t lose any structures before it turned back with the help of winds. They got their tail ends handed to them, but were successful. Today is another day, but they feel with the plan they have in place they are hoping to keep it out of Camp Nelson should they see the same activity today. Time will tell…
Thanks for the information and thank you to your son!
I knew last night would be a test. Glad it didn’t get any structures last night.
Video briefing posted on US Forest Service page states at this point their focus is point protection and that there has been structure loss in Alpine Village, Sequoia Crest, and Cedar Slope and that they anticipate it getting into Nelson and Ponderosa, if not today, tomorrow. Wish it was a better update.
Link to the FB briefing. Like Doc said above, all reactive, and point protection. No line construction and Ponderosa potentially an issue.
So sad to see.
Gonna be a long day up the hill today.
Hoping the winds and weather will cooperate soon.
Not looking like things are gonna go good today with the way the fire is pushing down slope
After sons report from last night I was sure hopeful. Doesn’t sound good.
I was too!
But it looks like it’s gonna be a long day!
From the sound of it. The entire south east back door is wide open to Ponderosa, Tule reservation. granted its forest and wilderness and previous burn scars. However it has to burn through campgrounds and communities to get there.
What’s the Command channel your listening to?
170.000 is what I’m picking it up on.
Does anyone have the IAP QR code or link?
South side of the fire has a pyrocumulus over the fire.
Heard over the radio that the ponderosa structure unit was asking for sprinkler systems. Seems as though they’re trying to get prepared.
DC-10 just dropped a line along Needles ridge at the highway. Needles ridge offers a significant change in air drainage and is the natural physical feature to stop the fire.
The way this fire has been moving and the 12 mile jog it took a couple nights ago I’m not sure much is going to stop it at this point.
