Firing the western divide wouldn’t have worked didn’t have the resources to even begin to fire and hold that much line. Those guys did the best they could with the resources they had. That 2 day event with the East winds, caused what happen then when it got on that West slope the down canyon winds pushed from there.
Just was a thought that is all
Sure was. I packed into the Gray Meadow ranger station when I was on Backcountry Horseman board. Very sad to see it gone.
What ever happend to raps? I think they tried it here in SIS-Q acouple years ago.
I THINK THE WORD IS “WRAPS”.
I do not know if they had time to wrap the cabin Or did they expect it to be threaten at the time.
Haven’t heard from my son, imagine he’s a tad busy, but I did receive a bit of Intel on the Camp Nelson area. Line construction has holding strong for now. There was one spot fire between crews and a dozer line they knocked out with a little help from a copter drop and that they haven’t lost any structures. Crews punched in another hose lay in towards coy flat tonight., and they are trying to button up the south side of the community. There are obviously concerns about Ponderosa, but I have no details on that… All I’ve got, but for now anyway sounds positive compared to some things I’ve heard. … for Camp Nelson anyway for now. We’ll see what tomorrow’s briefing brings…
I was so bummed to see Jordan Peak Lookout didn’t survive. Myself and two other techs were the ones that put up that repeater a few weeks ago when the fire first started. Didn’t think the fire was going to hit that peak at that moment in time.
I was just there in June. Margee was not there, day off, so did not make it inside. But the area was an amazing forest of Red Fir. First Needles Lookout, now Jordan, such a shame.
Last night we had a TF of 5 patrols (including ours (Patrol 6) along with a WT and TFL. Did there pre-trip briefing and left. I"believe " they were headed up Parker Pass to Ponderosa. Here’s a few pics of the Lodge before Pondo Dave finally left. Looks like the “painting crew” had been at work.
Team briefing this morning confirms, no structures lost in Camp Nelson despite spots in and around it. Ponderosa similar situation.
Just talked to the TF here at our station in Pine Flat that was doing R&R today . They will be heading back up Parker Pass for night shift soon. They are assigned to Pondo. They cut in a lot of line last night and will continue tonight prepping Pondo… Everything they told me was positive and encouraging. It was great seeing them and some were FF’s for me or worked with me back in the day. A quick reunion of sorts. Told them to be safe and put the darn fire out lol
Caught pieces of the Morning briefing on the scanner.
Point protection (Nelson & Ponderosa) is again today’s focus.
I’m having trouble loading the iap. Can someone please send me today’s? Thanks
