HAPPENING NOW: Castle Fire Prompting More Evacuation Warnings
Right now, Sheriff Boudreaux is issuing evacuation warnings for Alpine Village, Sequoia Crest and Redwood Drive, the area above Camp Nelson.
The Castle Fire is headed in the direction of these communities and Sheriff Boudreaux is asking people to be prepared to leave.
Predicted winds are from the E and NE for the next few days which is not a positive sign for the western flank. Add to that lower humidity and higher temps and it could get squirrely.
Where the fire is pushing to the west now has lots of timber in an area with no fire history. Lots of Pondo pine and Red Fir and of course the ever present trash/weed tree White Fir.
Looks like the Golden Trout Pack Station might be close to being overtaken, if not already. https://goldentroutpacktrains.com/
I now see T-137 on scene.
Agreed. Every bit of the western side of the fire is awesome country. From Quaking Aspen up to the pack station and out to Jordan, Maggie Lakes, Needles and Ponderosa is pretty good stuff. Current weather forecast is not making things look good in there though. Winds seem to be from the SE.
