Looks like perhaps some more site prep at the Bald Mountain camera site; the fire is getting up and going for an uphill jog down below.
If they merge they could be the Long Trout complex.
Would be a fun name.
Doubt they will though, there is a LOT of granite in between them. Imagine it would have a very difficult time crossing that similar to the Caldor when it started running up against the granite in desolation wilderness.
Watching today’s GOES 18 loop, looks like Long might have gotten bigger than Trout?

The SQF has burned so much country since I left in 2001, almost 25 yrs.there
They are bookends to the manter fire scar.
Wet thunderstorms possible over the southern Sierra today. Humidity is up some clouds out over the central valley this morning. Some drenching cells would sure be beneficial for the Trout (and Long).
NIFC now lists Trout and Long as 2024 SQF Lightning, along with Packsaddle and Acorn.
2024 SQF Lightning
Publication Type: News - 07/18/2024 - 09:06
Acorn Fire: 5 acres - 95% containment
Packsaddle Fire: 47 acres - 95% containment
Long Fire: 4,069 acres - 0% containment
Trout Fire: 8,721 acres - 0% containment
Total Personnel: 390
Current Situation: The Bureau of Land Management is now a cooperating agency with lands under their jurisdiction directly impacted. Another management change is the addition of a second fire camp located at Troy Meadow. This change will accommodate the increased resources fighting the Trout Fire and decrease daily travel times. The Long Fire resources will continue to utilize Camp 9 in the Kern River Valley. Firefighters have made great progress on securing the Acorn and Packsaddle Fires and each will remain in patrol status until full containment has been reached. Much of the resources from these fires are being redirected to the Trout Fire and Long Fire.
Business is starting to pick up.
Lotsa heat, GOES 18
Theres a reason why gliders planes love that section of the Sierra’s. They can ride thermals from Inyokern to Bishop easily, sometimes even mammoth if the cards align right.
I can only imagine how much those thermals get amplified when a few Pinion pines light up near each other.
