Thursday update…from yesterday the fire made a run in section 6 in the soda creek and no name drainage and spotted outside. Spot is being lined today. More crews inserted yesterday. A Quinn cabin of some historical value has been lined and wrapped.
Two type 1 copters worked the fire yesterday and copter 528 is enroute currently.
Main helibase is Peppermint.
A third helispot was made yesterday.
Tonight’s report was that the comm’s on the fire were pretty much boring back haul with the copters and the handline construction tying in the lower heal left flank up to the top of the fires run yesterday.
There was a spot that was lined last night from yesterdays afternoon run up to the NE.
If there’s any spread, their not talking about it on ch.4.
UPDATE Monday 23rd:
AA52 flew up and assessed that no aircraft could assist so far today. Visibility is 1/4 mile, or very poor.
This must be growing a bit every day. Saturday they tied Div. Y and A together. Created a new helispot #4. Still building line along Div. H.
Still a lot of logistics traffic on Ch.4. Asking crews to remain and not take scheduled R&R days.
3,547 acreage is inciweb stat.
Caltopo has active heat spread to north:

UPDATE 8/24 11:00: ( the format won’t allow me to make more then three consecutive replies)
Someone break this up with some good intel?
AA52 up over the fire and requesting 2 type two tankers. Bucket work from copters 525 and 528 will also be working in…?? Haven’t copied which area but, given spread to north, probability is north area Div. H.
Firing plan around a historical cabin is to commence today.
Got tankers 76 & 78 working division H(?) Tanker 164 has made a drop. Add 163 to the mix.
OK, they changed from H to Div.M on north flank.
They found a 10acre spot that they are trying to line.

This map should help us better see the basic fire spread, Divisions and Helispots.

Tonight at 2200 the Peppermint Helibase is up for night copter work. First time I heard this happen.
IC wanted to get with Div.M for a firing ops across a ridge (above soda creek & Butte, I believe) and down in to the river bottom of Soda Creek. Try to connect Div. M to A.
Firing around the historic cabins and installed a sprinkler system both went well. Portable tank and pump had to be flown in.
There were two copters doing logistics work and a skycrane was doing drops.
Inciweb has it at 4448 acres and 40% contained.
UPDATE 0800 Aug. 26th:
They flew in firing crews last night from the NPS and are trying to turn the fire to the east towards the fewer fuels in the Great Western Divide.
Hot Prime rib dinners for tonight’s menu.
Div.M is having to pull back crews to Quinn Cabin where the portable tanks are to get to a safety zone as the fire is pushing north too hard to continue line construction. Request priority to get water drops to fill the tanks at the cabin.
Kinda hard to see from Buck Rock, currently off the right side of it’s view, bit of a header:

Copters 525 and 528 bucket drops cooling the fires edge down around the cabin. All crews are
comfortable and waiting the prime rib dinners, I am sure. Lookouts posted on Soda Butte.
Quinn Cabin is in the center here from Caltopo:

UPDATE 1800:
Crews decided they need to be extracted so copter 552 pulled the 21 person crew out of Quinn Cabin along with their equipment. Helitac and lookouts crews are making their way to Quinn cabin now for extraction. Copter 522 also shuttled some crew members out. 2 hand crews, helitac and look outs safety flown to peppermint base.
All other crews remain on the line tonight.
Discussion with Div.M and IC have determined that a new division be created for the Quinn Cabin slop over (with spots) from last night. Westerly and northern movement seems to be the direction the fire is taking last few days.
2 Type 1 copters have been cooling the slop all morning.
Fire is not cool enough for direct line construction around the slop over. The spots might burn together by tomorrow.
UPDATE 8/28 1100
4 type 3 or larger fixed wing dropping from east flank to west slope over across the northern flank. Probably the M and R division’s that have been the difficult the past 3 days.
New Div. R is the open line around Quinn Cabin.
6643 acres and 40% containment.
Satellites from RAMMB Goes showing diminishing heat and smoke from past 2 days.

Crews pulled back to Quinn cabin or Soda Dip meadow and will wait out the run.

EDIT UPDATE 9/5 2000hrs:
Divisions M,R and Y are all tied together tonight. I believe there still might be a bit of open line Div.M to A.
Had a couple of hours work for 5HT copter today in Y. Picked up several small spots.
Will probably be releasing some resources soon.
Inciweb 8,705 acres at 55% containment.
** UPDATE EDIT 9-7 :
Not much work left here. Heat is a minimum here within the last 48 hours. Heard traffic today with 2 copters with buckets supporting some small firing out of islands near the line in Div.Y. It went well without difficulty.
Somebody please post a comment? I can only edit this so many times.
Thank you for the updates!
Not much going on with this one now, minimal activity.
8,719 acres and 58% contained.
100% contained a while ago.
