(9/16) Showing 69,908 acres and 20% this morning on the NOPs notes.
Fire’s putting up a good column on the Blue Canyon camera and the wind is blowing. Let’s hope the lines hold and a good rain gets there soon.
Kicking up in a big way on the PCWA Foresthill cam as well. Camera is pointed toward Soda Springs. Today’s Ops map shows lots of open line on the east side. Crossing the two cameras it looks like this is in Div J.
PCWA Forest Hill has a better view. Sorry can post the link
It sounds like a finger of fuels in Sec 28 just NW of Last Chance in Div. J took off earlier this afternoon and has worked its way into additional fuels and has terrain aligned with SW winds in the North Fork Middle Fork American River and surrounding drainages.
That would be it, they did a good job firing deadwood ridge in anticipation of this happening.
Expecting precip over the fire around one in the morning - pulling crews back to paved roads to avoid slip’n’slide action and mired equipment.
Iap for today ?
Way to bring the stoke. Big demob list today.
In todays IAP, there appears to be over 70 Water Tenders assigned to this fire. There are only 3 or 4 Type 3 WT’s. My 2000 gallon unit is a Cal Fire Type 2, but it is also a USFS type 3. IF the USFS is the point of ordering, I would think that there would be more type 3’s assigned to this fire as these 2000 gallon units are very common. I have seen them on many Cal Fire and USFS fires, and not just assigned to base camp. Does anybody have any insight on why there are so few Type 3’s? Feeling left out…
For the USFS they are too small. In my experience they are only called in for use where type 2’s can’t go. I have seen them called for 2 or 3 days then demobed.
Some nice pictures including drone ir pics.
as per Helco…all copters off fire returning to base due to incoming weather
So for anybody assigned to the fire, how is the mud fest today?
