The #Redfire is 398 acres as of yesterday. Fire crews have been closely looking at all nearby natural barriers (mostly granite in this case) to confine and contain the fire.

Putting out a little bit of heat still on GOES. No cams and minimal smoke, though.

Not sure if we wanted to start a separate thread for this but this is another fire burning in @YosemiteNPS

Fires that burn at a low to moderate intensity make the forest more resistant to future large wildfire by reducing the amount of dead and downed debris and other hazardous fuels. The lightning caused #Rodgersfire burning in the high county of Yosemite wilderness is approximately 25 acres with no threat to infrastructure. This fire was discovered Aug 8 and fire crews are assessing the natural barriers in the area to confine and contain the fire.

The #RedFire has grown to 572 acres. The fire’s behavior is displaying creeping and smoldering with 2–3-inch flame lengths with most of the activity being on the northern portion of the fire. Mammoth Wildland Fire Module and Yosemite’s California Conservation Crew are working to clear the areas along trails near Illilouette Creek on the southwest portion of the fire.

The #RodgersFire shows minimal growth over the last few days with a total of 72 acres. Creeping and smoldering in the northeast portion of the fire is present. Yosemite’s Wildland Fire Module is working along trails and moving dead and down fuels away to keep the fire off the pathways.

A trail segment to the north of the fire, Rodgers Canyon from Neil Lake to the junction with Table Lake, has been closed for public safety.

The #RodgersFire made quite a smoky scene this afternoon as temperatures increased. The smoke produced was due to the fire growing towards an area with high vegetation, which makes a lot of smoke! The vegetation consists of mostly dead trees, brush, and finer fuels. The fire burning out this area will clear the dead fuels and allow for new vegetation to grow and create a healthier forest.

Rodgers Fire is now 150 acres. Firefighters continue their work to confine and contain the area within natural barriers.
