CA-YNP-Washburn?

Interesting. Not sure I’d categorize long-range spotting as moderate fire behavior, though I’m also not sure what’s becoming of those spots given the relatively slow growth of the fire - at least as of the last acreage update. For all the intense heat it’s been putting out and its impressive column, it doesn’t seem to be moving very fast - at least so far. We’ll see what happens this week with the forecast increase in temps and winds.

-Mod Note-

I have moved the fire behavior discussion posts and Rx conversation to the correct thread. Please carry on over there. We are not opposed to the discussion but it clogs up the fire thread.

Thank you and carry on.

I hope those 2 excavators with thumbs, feller bunchers and log loaders are in a safe spot.

The amount of smoke/convection this “little” 2700 acre timber fire is producing since the beginning speaks to how dense the fuels are at the ground. It will be interesting to see what remains after.

Much of that could be attributed to the windstorm that hit the area in Jan 2021, as SteepNrocky mentioned upthread. The damage was fairly extensive. That’s the first thing I mentioned to a Yosemite ranger when she informed me of the start last Thursday, and she agreed, it could get hairy.

Scanner folk, there has been an additional Air Tactics FM ordered, 167.8125. Without the 220, not sure on its assignment, if it’ll eventually replace the 166.6125 (rare but not unheard of with team assignments,) or supplement as an Air command, (also rare I’d say for a fire this size, however not out of the question considering the airspace complexity this thing might get.) Or it might just be back-pocketed for what-ifs. @apx8000 @trishaswcfirewx

The fire really woke up around 05:00 this morning on the Deadwood 2 Cam - did it spot across the river?

They were doing some firing last night but I have not heard a peep or a squawk from any resources this morning. I guess we need to wait for Helco or ATGS to provide some insight unless @apx8000 or @norcalscan have heard.
