Congratulations. Nothing yet for me. And scored Rank 1…
Same…
Sorry I meant as a FFII…I was responding to the other message
Same here.
Anyone else heard of fae offers
I spoke with a gal from the fae hotline this afternoon. Just going to share my conversation here. My main question was how do you find out where an indivdual stood on the list. Basically, she couldn’t answer the question because she compared it to trying to find out your interview results. (If there was an interview) She also told me that your exam rank doesn’t play a factor of where you are on the list since there are only three ranks, and everyone is reachable. The competitive portion of the process that organizes the list was based on allowed certs that was requested for the application packet. The packet is scored based on the certs the candidate possessed. Also according to her, the optional resume or experience doesn’t play a factor. What I failed to ask was how they would “tie-break” the people who had all the same certs. I don’t know if she would’ve told me if I did ask. Furthermore, the biggest hiring rounds usually take place in January and June/July. Most movement during those times due to retiring personnel and June/July for budget reasons (End of fiscal year). Lastly, it was hard for her to say how long this list will actually stay alive for. Just depends on the number of hires they do off this one.
But yeah…just wanted to share. One other thing mentioned to me (not from the hotline) is in order to keep it fair they could possibly “tie-break” scores by throwing them into a lottery. Maybe you guys know more or heard different? Hope this helps.
The tie breaker question is the biggest question
“Optional resume or experience doesn’t play a factor” These two were a High Priority back in the days of getting the qualified employees for the department.
I was on many interview panels and a candidates resume and previous experience always scored higher. Cal Fire has become to PC with lower standards in hiring practices, leaving those two factors out!
I couldn’t agree with you more. Unfortunately, Cal Fire has lost most control of at least the FAE and FF2 hiring processes. State personnel board sets most of the rules, and they seem to change every year. And the more I think about it the more I believe that the use of a lottery system isn’t too far fetched. Its easy, they can cover their butts and say its “fair”, and the higher ups can be happy that vacancies are being filled in a timely matter. They would say reading 1300 resumes and scoring them individually is too time consuming and costly.
Anyone know what type of pant/s we’re supposed to show up to the academy with? I haven’t gotten my academy start date yet
Contact your new units training bureau. You should get a TR60 with all that info.
New pants are issued by the unit FLO, who will also issue you your bunker and wildland gear. Depending on what unit and where in the unit you may go (sched A or B) they may have multiple dispersion points. If going for the whole 14 weeks, including FFA. I highly advise 2 sets of turnouts. Just my $.02.
From Hiring: You are re ranked based on the certs you submitted at time of application, this includes ones that were not required till time of appointment ( Class B, CPat) every cert was a point. From there, where large groups of people had every cert a lottery number was then assigned, this lottery process continues on for each grouping of applicants. Each applicant will only be offered up to one LT and/ Or one perm spot PER ROUND (due to first right of refusal this means it might be tough to perm out of a unit that you are an LT in if you didn’t intend to stay there. This is what was explained to me. 2nd round LT hiring has been going on since Monday.
Why would it be hard to perm out? If you’re an LT and don’t plan on staying in that unit you could get a perm call from your Number 1 pick if your high up on the perm list
First right of refusal. So if say you got an LT offer at TCU they get the first shot at offering you a perm spot (if they have one) I’d they don’t you might get a different offer, otherwise TCU would offer it to you and you would turn it down (in this example)…that would be the only perm offer you would receive that round because you only get 1 per round. Next round TCU has first right of refusal and the cycle continues
“this includes ones that were not required till time of appointment ( Class B, CPat) every cert was a point”
I submitted my packet without an endorsement or cpat. A month later I had both. I then contacted the hotline and explained to them i now have an endorsement and cpat, and I would like to update my packet. They told me it would NOT be necessary because when you get the offer is the time you would verify your endorsement and cpat.
Very likely a cause for protest if your info is true.
Furthermore, I have speculated about the use of a lottery within the state hiring process. I found, even through direct emails with calhr, that it is an unknown process and there is no rule or policy to justify it.
Your grievance wouldn’t be valid. It’s not necessary till time of appointment but it’s points if you had it at time of application . And you can’t update your application once it’s been submitted. Lottery is just what they deem a fair way to re sort a group of people who all had the same cert based score
“From hiring:” I think you should be more specific of your source so not to allow misinformation. I can credit all my info came from sources such as the FAE hotline, emails with CALHR and supervisors who recently attended trainings with CALHR personnel.
