CAL FIRE FAE

Which units?

Offers from BTU and LNU

Rule of 3 applies, but with only 3 ranks, all three ranks are eligible. So it comes down to a combination of the written score and the score they gave you for your resume. I would imagine those that had FFA & COA got the most educational points and thus got the most points for their resume. It makes sense because the dept has already paid for those people to attend the 14 weeks of training required to become a FAE. Next would be those that are Perm FF2 having attended FFA and thus only needing 7 weeks of COA to become a FAE. I personally know of people getting hired out of rank 3 but they had both FFA & COA. Have also heard of medics who have FFA geting jobs, but they still require COA.
I donā€™t think this round of hiring is done yet so good luck. Keep an eye on then proposed budget that is being released tomorrow. Rumor is another 54 engines spread out over 5yr.

GOOD LUCK!

Shoot fingers crossed! No call yet. The nervous mental breakdown starts.

FF1 with no FFA or COA,LT time or additional certs hired perm rank 3. So the points thing isnā€™t making sense.

What in the worldā€¦

Thatā€™s what I said. Not sure how that happened. Maybe back to the ā€œwho you knowā€ system?

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m thinking. I would thought I would have gotten a call compared to those stats. Good for him though! Shoot.

Does the person who got hired have previous experience? (FS/BLM/NPS, out of state LG)
Do they have a college degree?

Do they have formal training? (SFT FF1, FF2)

All of those things matter when scoring a resume.

I could be wrong, but I think we need to take the work location form into considerationā€¦

  1. Rule of 3ā€™s based off results of FAE exam
  2. Resume review showing completion of FFA, COA, and/or previous LT appointment
  3. Work location form. And I believe this is why we are seeing folks getting offers that may not be as qualified as others remaining on the list.
I ranked 1 on the exam, have completed FFA and am currently a permanent FFII. However, I only put in for 5 units. So when I hear that folks are getting offers for units I didnā€™t bother with, I know that is a result of a choice I made back in October when I submitted my work location form. I think itā€™s great for everyone, no more complaints of a long commute. In the end, you voluntarily ranked the units you were willing to accept an offer. Then accepted it.

Does anyone know if the engineer hiring is done now or are they still making calls next week?

Through the next week I believe.

Yes. Units have not finished hiring chauffeurs yet. I read some emails from a couple AOā€™s stating that as well. Looks like mostly LT bumps to Perms. With a few brand new operators here and there

Thatā€™s being said, keeps your phones on. Looks like still a lot of movement into fire season I would imagine with Perm/LT Jobs, Iā€™m still waiting!

You hear anything yet?

Nothing yet

Anyone know of anyone getting a call for FAE or FFII?

Yes. Seems as the majority are currently in LT spots. But I have heard of some without COA/FFA getting offers.
