CAL FIRE FAE

No bases to cover, CALFIRE accepts class C with FF endorsement to attend COA.

A handful of years ago the state got rid of the class C w/ ff endorsement. Might as well protect yourself for the future, in case it happens again, and just get a commercial b. Itā€™s not that hard. Iā€™d call that covering your bases. No biggie.

2016 we allowed C w/FF endorsement as long as you have proper training documentation and signed off by the Unit Chief.

The other day Iā€™m reading station email and I came across a message from the Chief that said he just got back from a big meeting down south and went on about a bunch of stuff. Well one line that jumped out at me was he said, ā€œFC and FAE reviews were going to start the first week of January for the 2020 season down in MVUā€. If you havenā€™t applied yet, when you do, submit a resume with your application. Have a personal statement that is longer than 2 sentences. These guys are going to be choosing who theyā€™re going to be working with based on your experience and what you say about yourself. Sell it! Anyone down in MVU hear about this or just anyone please chime in. The more info we all know the better. Good luck!

Pay close attention to Item #16 in the job announcement regarding CPAT

All your Certs are required in hand, so be on your A-game when explaining your experience. Best to sell how Cal Fire could benefit from hiring You!

Also dress sharp, arrive early in case applicant before didnā€™t show, be well prepared to answer questions about your experience. Respect the time interviewers give you and answer any concerns!

Just to make things clear, from the official FAE Job Announcement on CalCareers:
ā€œPossession of a valid driverā€™s license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehiclesā€

From the CURRENT Academy COA curriculum prereqs:
Possess a valid Class C Firefighter Endorsed driverā€™s license (minimum)

DMV currently offers the Class C Endorsed license with some extra hoops to jump through and extra cost for the endorsement. I suggest you CAREFULLY read the requirements on the DMV website.

But as others have said, cover your bases and help your career out! Get a full class B with all endorsements (including haz mat & passenger endorsement). Itā€™s not that hard and once you have it, you have it! You only need to update your medical exam every two years - and the department will cover that during your annual RPP.
You cannot drive a bomb (excuse meā€¦Helitender) or a crew bus without a Class B.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO DO THIS! I know several folks who accepted a job only to be rejected because they did not have the proper license when COA time arrived.

Good luck! From what I understand (and I may be wrong), it will be transfer hiring first, then captain, then fae, so engineer calls might be late in the week or beginning of next week.

Good luck . Hope everyone gets picked up who ranked

Anyone get any calls? Which units if any?

Well I know someone from rank 3 with no prior FAE time who got a perm offer today so rank definitely doesnā€™t matter

Do you know which units?

I know 2 FAE jobs perm one from rank 2 and one from 3.
