With meteorological spring starting in 5 days it sure feels like meteorological winter lasted for approx 5 days or so - and now another stretch of 70’s are marching back into the picture!! ![]()
Edit on 2/27..
Mother nature read my post about 70’s returning and said hold my beer.. Hello 80 degrees in Feb!
No wonder my dogs are stoked out after pt’s today…
Heads up in/around the Shasta convergence zone - things are looking potentially #sporty this weekend and you know what that means! ![]()
Some light reading for the Wx geeks that dig this stuff..
GFS wants to bring in an extremely strong Diablo wind event next weekend with upper level support at 140 KTs and perfect right angle geometry. The ECMWF is a bit weaker but still brings in a strong wind event. The GFS run tonight was pretty alarming. The GFS is not reliable in the 5-7 day range on it’s own but since it has support from the other models I wanted to highlight this. Same applies for Southern California..
I know it’s early but if this plays out as predicted now what/where are we looking at for winds?
@anvilhead what’s causing it to be this hot so early in the year?
The sudden stratospheric warming event over the artic is affecting the weather.
The cold air infiltrates from the north into the heartland of the country, and the weaker jet stream allows for meridional flow, as we see with the cut off low separating from the enhanced jet stream over the middle of the country, to a favorable position for offshore flow for us:
Marine heat wave: sea surface temperatures off of our coast are much above average, and this will allow for a greater surface pressure gradient when cold air enters the Great Basin:
Long term: broadening and weakening of the earths magnetic field to magnetic north leads to slower ocean currents because salt water holds a charge/magnetic property and is less, more long wave radiation enters the earth system from the sun and is absorbed into the oceans, the oceans continue to warm and the energy transfer process to the poles becomes more amplified/extreme.
Will throw in a bonus since it’s where we are at and I think most people get it at this point:
the western states will likely be experiencing major changes soon/in the coming years. Since most of it is related to the collective unconscious of humans, I am going to say that the chance is near certainty.
I see what you did there.
Been thinking alot recently about how the only constant is change..
The “system” is charged - even with the solar maximum coming to an end there is more than enough stored potential energy to make (or amplify) all manner of things in the coming days, weeks, months & years. It is worrisome++ to say the least and then there are all those other cyclical happenings & change makers also marching along doing their thing. ![]()
Its a bummer x 100 that our short human lifespans keep us from a much greater understanding of the bigger cosmic climatology and cycles that are very much real and happening now. Btw, the current heliocentric planetary geometry sure looks significant and then some! ![]()
Thank you for explaining things the way you do. Especially adding the information regarding the magnetic poles & movement/strengthening/weakening of magnetic north.
