Looks like Garmin has got into the TAK space. Now we have two hardware interface options for sat comms.
Made a new video on the basics of the Android operating system. This shows how similar the core of iOS and Android really are.
Hello AJ! I have a quick question for you regarding COT for cameras.
From what I gather, a COT for a wildfire camera looks something like this:
<event type="b-m-p-s-p-loc" how="m-p" ...
<point ... >
<detail>
<sensor fovGreen="1.0" fovBlue="1.0" fovRed="1.0" range="100" azimuth="270" displayMagneticReference="0" fov="45" hideFov="true" fovAlpha="0.3"/>
<color argb="-1"/>
</detail>
Unfortunately, when I generate my own COT, I canât get the cone to display by default in ATAK. You have to click on the point in ATAK and then select a menu option. Is there a tag or attribute I can use to render the sensor cone by default, with no user interaction?
Thanks in advance,
Peter
Sending you a PM.
Hey all wanted to pass on I will be teaching a one day workshop at the All Hazards IMT conference in March. This year it is hosted in Long Beach. This will be my first pancake but we have a good crop of instructors that will have you running an incident in ATAK by the end of the day.

Here is a short tutorial on filtering the map objects by field of view. Its one of the more subtle features in ATAK but I find it very powerful.
I wanted to point out for the 8 hour ATAK workshop at the AHIMT you do not have to register for the entire conference you can just take the 8 hour course. Itâs $175 now and $200 the day of. Just FYI, I am not paid for doing this, it is all Pro Bono for me and all my assistant instructors. AHIMTA Symposium 2023 Hotel
Anyone wanting to build your own TAK Server environment here is a good guide. This is using the Gov Off the Shelf (GOTS) tak server. https://mytecknet.com/lets-build-a-tak-server/
FreeTAKServer also exists and is going through some upgrades for its next version.
Here is a video on how to use Pref files in ATAK. This can be helpful for organizations that share devices that are assigned to apparatus and have different shifts sharing the same device. It can also be helpful if your device grenades and you have to do a new install of ATAK.
New video on how to use Google Earth to turn a a plain image/map into a georeferenced image or map. You can then bring this right into ATAK, iTAK, WinTAK.
@moderators do we have pinned links or stickys?
I created a google site to help answer questions for the TAKcurious.
New video - not fire related but I think everyone at this point regardless of the patch is dealing with flooding right about now.
Here is cool flip book on the Aevex FIRIS contract. Cool that they mentioned TAK.
I have updated the FTP folders for ATAK. So all the final fire maps from 2022 season for California are accessible from ATAK using the Cloud plugin. You do have to have www.tak.gov access for now to get the plugin. I am trying to get it for public release. This video shows off how it can be used.
As we get closer to the 10 year anniversary of Granite Mountain Hotshot/Yarnell tragedy I reflect on could technology have prevented a tragedy or made more options for helping mitigate an already poorly made decision. You all know I am an ATAK fan. If it wasnt for this DARPA project right here and the left behind equipment at the prescott national forest I would have never found out about ATAK in 2018 from Eric Aselin. We have much less expensive radios, sat comms solutions now but the value of this data has not changed.
Good morning,
Just wanted to say thank you for all of the information contained in this thread. I have gotten TAK running successfully and am looking to use it in the field this fire season. I am looking forward to training our personnel and hopefully using these tools withing our agency.
I have had issues signing up on TAK.gov. Does anyone have a contact there? I get no replies when I sign up or hit the contact form. I would love to access the plugins mentioned above.
Thanks,
Iain

Theyâll get you squared away.
Welcome to the TAK community! If you havenâ t already, visit thetaksyndicate.org and be sure to plug in to the Discord and Slack communities for fairly rapid-fire answers to any questions youâll have.
If your still struggling to get access on TAK.gov please DM me. I run www.thetaksyndicate.org and an admin on the public safety ATAK on Slack.
The links to Discord are on the faq on my website.
If your looking to spin up a server i have a new script that makes install super easy. Oh how I would love if this site would host a tak-server for members to use.
